May 11 “Living the Challenge of the First Mother’s Day”  Grannies for Peace has created a service  to celebrate Mother’s Day at FUUSA, with spoken words and music.  We will be honoring Julia Ward Howe, poet, activist, and Unitarian who founded the first Mother’s Day of Peace.

Grannies will rekindle her message for all of us in the present through the voices of four life-sized Guardian puppets. Starting with  readings about Julia Ward Howe’s life, and the passionate text of her Mother’s Day Proclamation.

Music performed by Ann Brandon, pianist, and Grannie singers, Barb Cooley, Dinah Farrington, Dot Richards, Maureen Aumand, Mickie Lynn and Nancy Smith.  Puppets created by Mabel Leon.

All mothers, children of any age, grandmothers, and grandchildren are invited to attend this service that sends a strong anti-war message and calls on us to take action, now in our present time, as Julia Ward Howe called on her contempories right after the civil war in 1870.

Parking is available in the U Albany Hawley lot on the corner of Washington Avenue and Robin. Please arrive between 9:45 am and 10 am to be seated before the service begins, at 10 am.  Seating for latecomers will be delayed.
