Wednesday, April 11, 5:30 pm, First Lutheran Church, 181 Western Ave, Albany, Women Against War’s Annual Gathering,
Come honor our Woman of Peace Awardee: Mickie Lynn. Mickie coordinates Women Against War’s Waging Peace blog on the Times Union website – adding compelling posts of her own, manages our listserv, updates our website and shares key national resources with all our projects. In addition to these critical but sometimes unseen tasks, Mickie carries our advocacy messages to the vigil line, to legislative offices and to other peace and justice partner organizations. Mickie’s “peace radar” is always on! She is dependably well-informed about issues of conflict involving the US anywhere around the world.
Come learn from Uzma Popal, speaking on Hunger at Home. Through her work with the Muslim Soup Kitchen and as Coordinator for the Nutrition Outreach Education Program at Unity House, Uzma learned firsthand the impact of inadequate funding on food assistance needed by people in our community. Uzma was born in Pakistan and has lived in the US since 1985. A graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany, Uzma, her husband Quvi and their four children live in Wynantskill.
